About the Tournament

The Jesuit Lacrosse Classic is co-hosted by Georgetown Prepatory School and Gonzaga College High School. The Jesuit Lacrosse Classic has become recognized as one of the premier lacrosse events in the Washington, DC area.

This year's tournament benefits the Washington Jesuit Academy and Winners Lacrosse. The Washington Jesuit Academy provides an intensive, rigorous, tuition-free education to economically disadvantaged boys, grades 6-8, in an extended day, extended year program. Winners Lacrosse is a nonprofit organization that provides youth from historically underserved neighborhoods, in the greater Washington metropolitan area, the opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse.

History

Two brothers with a passion for lacrosse and a strong calling for helping others started what has now become the nation's largest all-Jesuit High School athletic event. in 1997 Kevin and Don Giblin coached competing teams for two Jesuit high schools, Georgetown Prep and Gonzaga, respectively. Both teams were anxious to find more competitors. With the help of Ed Toussaint ( a Georgetown Prep parent), the brothers conceived the first Jesuit Lacrosse Classic.

From the beginning, in the Jesuit spirit, a portion of the proceeds of the event has been contributed each year to one or more charities.

At the inaugural 1997 JLC, organizers and coaches discovered that the lacrosse games were only part of what made the weekend great for the players. It was also a unique chance for he boys to meet new people from other places with whom they had a great deal in common. Over the last nine years, sixteen different Jesuit high schools from nine states have participagted in the JLC.

Lacrosse Magazine covered the JLC for the first time in 2000 and called it "arguably the country's premier high school lacrosse tournament."
